1. What is a FAQ?
- FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions
- A FAQ is a feature found on allot of websites that is used for various
explanations and places of sometimes deep technical info. On our site,
it just a collection of questions and answers.
2. What is the difference between 9-1-1 and E9-1-1
services?
- 9-1-1 service by itself is a three digit number to dial that was
invented by AT&T that met requirements of being easy to remember and short
amount of digits to dial in case of an emergency. When used, this
directs the caller to a PSAP or public safety answering point.
- E-9-1-1 or Enhanced 911 service goes above and beyond the 9-1-1 service
by associating a physical address of the calling phone number. In
cases of wireless communication devices and using Phase II technology will
indicate the position of the call based on GPS coordinates.
3. Which 9-1-1 service does Mason County have?
- Mason County has E-9-1-1 service. When you place a 9-1-1 call from
a land-line based telephone we are able to see a satellite picture of your
house, the telephone number that you called from, who lives at the
residence, and driving directions for dispatchers to give to ambulances,
fire trucks, or police cars.
- Depending on the age and technology of your cellular telephone and your
cellular company, we may or may not be able to pinpoint your located based
on GPS coordinates when you dial 9-1-1 from a cellular phone.
4. What does Phase II wireless mean?
- Phase II wireless systems are systems that transmit the GPS coordinates
of a cell phone at the time it places a call. Mason County 9-1-1 is
Phase II ready which means if the cellular phone companies transmit the GPS
data we are able to receive it. However, the only service that does
this on a regular basis in our area is On-Star vehicle systems.
