| Emergency planning committee officials appointed Diane Pottorff dpottorff@mydailyregister.com Published: December 19, 2008 POINT PLEASANT - In the past 10 years, there has been significant growth and progress for emergency planning in Mason County. During Wednesday's quarterly meeting of the Mason County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), Kevin Dennis announced that he was stepping down as chairman. "It has been a great experience, and we have had some exciting things happen with growth, enthusiasm and attendance," he said. "Participation has been wonderful and we have a great group of volunteers." He said that with the current members, the LEPC has been able to tackle a number of projects, including brochure explaining what the LEPC is and what it does; helping Mason County become the first county in West Virginia to establish the Wide Area Rapid Notification (WARN) system; the development of a Web page; making a Shelter-in-Place DVD; and establishing easy access to the county's emergency response plan. Following nominations, the new chairman for the LEPC will be R.C. Faulk, assistant director of the Mason County Office of Emergency Services. Vice chair will be John Bumgarner, with Ruth Dunham elected as treasurer. Lisa Gangwer will remain as secretary, and public information officers Debbie Powell and Ginger McKnight also will continue serving in their roles. "I am passing the torch into good hands," Dennis said of the new officers. "They have a heart for the community, and I am blessed to be a part of all of you." Faulk said he wants to continue the work started under Dennis. "I intend to follow the path that has been set with all of their hard work they have started," he added. Officers were elected during Wednesday's quarterly meeting of the Mason County Local Emergeancy Planning Committee: R.C. Faulk, chairman; Ginger McKnight, public information officer; Lisa Gangwer, secretary; Kevin Dennis, former chairman; Debbie Powell, public information officer; Ruth Dunham, treasurer; and John Bumgarner, vice chairman.
